A Cheshire East councillor who was expelled from the Conservative Group, has not appealed against the decision.

Cllr Sarah Pochin, who represents Bunbury Ward, was expelled by the Cheshire East Conservative Group in March.

Cllr Pochin was at the centre of a Mayoralty fall out in February, which led to her suspension.

She was voted in as the new Mayor by the ruling Labour-Independent group on Cheshire East Council who had rejected the Conservative Mayor-elect Cllr Steven Edgar.

This angered the Conservative group, and when Cllr Pochin accepted the position she was told by other Conservatives to sit away from them.

The following day she was suspended by the Conservatives, then in March the Group voted by majority that she had “breached the Conservative Group Rules” and was expelled.

A spokesperson for the Conservative Group in Cheshire East said: “Following a convening of the Cheshire East Conservative Group on 9th March 2020, to consider an investigation into member conduct, Cllr Sarah Pochin (Bunbury Ward) was expelled from the Group subject to appeal.

“In the intervening period, Cllr Sarah Pochin has not sought to appeal this decision and so her expulsion from the Conservative Group is upheld.

“Cllr Pochin remains as an “Ungrouped Member” of Cheshire East Council representing the Bunbury Ward.”

Cllr Pochin remains a member of the Conservative Party and a member of the Eddisbury Conservative Association.
