victim named - Air ambulance landed in field near Bishop's Wood

A man involved in an industrial accident in Bishop’s Wood in Nantwich yesterday has died, police have confirmed.

Emergency services including police, paramedics, air ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene at Bridle Hey at around 1.45pm on Thursday 13 August.

The victim, a 32-year-old man from Runcorn, was working for electricity company SP Energy Networks.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said today: “Officers attended the scene and found that a utility worker had been injured whilst working in the area.

“The man, a 32-year-old from the Runcorn area, sadly died at the scene.

“The incident has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.”

Guy Jefferson, SP Energy Networks’ Customer Service Director, said: “We’re saddened to confirm the death of an SP Energy Networks colleague working in the Nantwich area yesterday afternoon.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and support is being provided to colleagues.

“The health and safety of our team is a priority for us and a full investigation into the incident is under way.

“It’s therefore inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson said: “HSE are aware of the incident and making initial enquiries.”

  1. The employee is a relative of mine and I am appalled at how this has been handled regarding his wife and family. No contact has been made to date not even a MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE. I am disgusted that HR has not even asked “How can we help, do you need anything”
    I worked in HR and I know that it would have been a comfort to the family.
