Queens Honours - Wonderland - Weston Christmas Light Display 2018 - Graham Witter (1) (1)

Big-hearted fundraiser Graham Witter is putting the final touches to this year’s Weston Christmas Light Display ahead of its launch on December 2.

Graham and his family are once again transforming their family farm in Weston into a magical Winter Wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights and decorations, to raise money for The Donna Louise Hospice.

But with Government restrictions still in place, this year’s event will be a drive-thru event so visitors can enjoy this year’s #StarlitGarden from the safety of their own car.

It is the eighth year Graham has organised the display in memory of his sister, Jessica, who had a fascination for colour, light and sound and received respite care at The Donna Louise Hospice.

Over the last seven years, Graham has raised £124,850 for families like his, who rely on The Donna Louise for care, support and respite services.

Graham was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 as he is receiving the British Empire Medal for his services to charitable fundraising and to the community in Crewe.

He said: “I’m thrilled to be able to continue the event this year.

“It’s been a very difficult year for everyone, so to be able to bring some festive cheer, happiness and joy to the local community makes the months of hard work and planning so worthwhile.

“The event will once again be free to attend, and there’s no need to book in advance, or buy tickets, but I’d like to encourage people to make a donation when they visit, as I’ll be raising money for The Donna Louise which is a local charity very close to my heart.

“There’ll be plenty of opportunities for people to safely make cash donations when they visit the display throughout December.”

New this year is a #NameAStar initiative which will see 150 personalised, handmade stars displayed around a 20ft lit Christmas Tree, each containing the name of someone special from the local community.

Graham added: “I wanted to introduce a way for people to remember their loved ones and celebrate local heroes this Christmas.

“Since the beginning of October people have been contacting me with the names they’d like to have displayed on their stars and I think the final display will be something really special among this year’s Starlit Garden.”

The stars can then be collected from Carters Green Farm, Jack Lane, on January 16 as a lasting memory from this year’s Winter Wonderland.

The opening evening for this year’s light display will be on Wednesday December 2 at 6.15pm and the lights will shine bright until December 28, from 6.15pm-9pm.
