{"id":51342,"date":"2019-04-05T17:13:33","date_gmt":"2019-04-05T17:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenantwichnews.co.uk\/directory\/?p=51342"},"modified":"2019-04-05T17:13:33","modified_gmt":"2019-04-05T17:13:33","slug":"south-cheshire-firm-mornflake-backs-historic-bunbury-mill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenantwichnews.co.uk\/directory\/south-cheshire-firm-mornflake-backs-historic-bunbury-mill\/","title":{"rendered":"South Cheshire firm Mornflake backs historic Bunbury Mill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bunbury Mill has reopened for the spring and summer season with one of the oldest companies in the country onboard as a supporter.<\/p>\n<p>The watermill museum is backed by Cheshire-based breakfast company Mornflake as part of a sponsorship scheme which keeps the ten-ton water wheel turning.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, volunteers welcomed a record 2,798 visitors and already their diary is busy with bookings from WI groups, cyclists and schools.<\/p>\n<p>Bunbury Watermill Trust chairman Ken Broster said: &#8220;We operate a scheme which invites local people and businesses to sponsor a \u2018bucket\u2019 on the wheel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mornflake has been a great friend of the mill over the years and has returned for a third year as a bucket sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The company also supplies oats and chaff for use in the mill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seeing the grain ground into flour is a big part of the visitor experience and people come from miles around to see the process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mornflake is the country\u2019s fourth oldest independently run company with the Lea family at the helm since 1675.<\/p>\n<p>Managing director John Lea was a founder supporter of the Bunbury Watermill Trust whose volunteers maintain the attraction year-round.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Broster added: &#8220;Bunbury can trace its milling history back to the 11th century.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The present building dates back to 1843 and for many years it was used for the production of animal feed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 1963 flood breached the dam and the mill was seriously damaged and abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;NWWA, later United Utilities, reopened it to the public in 1977 and the Trust, which is entirely run by volunteers, acquired it in 2012 for<br \/>\nthe princely sum of \u00a31.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since then visitor numbers have risen dramatically &#8211; from 675 in our first year to last year\u2019s bumper attendance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People see our sign as they drive past or look up \u2018things to do in Cheshire.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Advance bookings are also popular and we are pleased to have a good number in the diary for the new season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Grade II listed mill offers visitors a chance to weigh grain, start the wheel and hand grind wheat.<\/p>\n<p>Other attractions include a caf\u00e9, picnic area and wildlife pond.<\/p>\n<p>Mornflake marketing manager Richard Jones said: &#8220;We like to celebrate our historic roots in Cheshire and supporting the mill is one of the ways we can do this.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sponsorship also presents an opportunity promote the goodness of oats and get this message across to children.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mill volunteers help illustrate the journey of the oat from field to bowl.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They do a great job at bringing history to life and putting Cheshire on the map as a visitor destination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information on opening times and how to support the registered charity visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bunburymill.com\">www.bunburymill.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For more information on Mornflake history and products visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mornflake.com\">www.mornflake.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>(Pic: Mornflake ambassador Sian Williamson with Bunbury Watermill Trust chairman Ken Broster and volunteer David Andrews)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bunbury Mill has reopened for the spring and summer season with one of the oldest companies in the country, Mornflake, on board as a supporter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":51345,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7089],"tags":[7168,7170,7167,7171,7169],"class_list":["post-51342","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","tag-bunbury-mill","tag-grain","tag-mornflake","tag-sponsor","tag-wheel"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
