An accounts assistant at Swansway Motor Group\u2019s Fleet operation pedalled 300 miles in the Cancer Research challenge.<\/p>\n
Nantwich man Neil Tinsley only discovered the pleasure of pedal power after he turned 50 in 2017.<\/p>\n
This year, he has multiplied his efforts ten-fold, completing a 3,000-mile cycling challenge for The Christie.<\/p>\n
Neil said: “I\u2019ve been treasurer of the Nantwich, Christie Hospital Support Group for over 20 years.<\/p>\n
“We organise fund-raising events throughout the year including Quiz Nights, Fashion Shows, gin and wine tastings and black-tie dinners.<\/p>\n
“The sad fact is cancer touches almost everyone\u2019s life at some time, in some way, and I\u2019ve always tried to help in any way I can.<\/p>\n
“Our support group was formed in 1993 and to date we\u2019ve raised more than \u00a3425,000 for The Christie.<\/p>\n
“Over the years we\u2019ve donated to a whole range of research projects at The Christie, including The Manchester Cancer Research Centre and the recently opened Proton Beam Therapy Unit.<\/p>\n
“Our most recent donation funded the purchase of nine chemotherapy chairs for the new Christie@Macclesfield.<\/p>\n
“I started cycling in 2017, just after my 50th birthday, and last year I cycled 300 miles in 30 days, for the Cancer Research UK challenge; so, when friends suggested I do my own six-month, 3,000-mile Summertime Cycling Challenge for The Christie I decided to go for it!”<\/p>\n
