Almost 200 jobs will be created following an \u00a38 million scheme to build two new warehouse units in South Cheshire, writes Aran Dhillon<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The plans for plot one at Basford West Commercial Park between Shavington and Crewe came before Cheshire East Council\u2019s strategic planning board last week.<\/p>\n

Two units totalling 12,615 square metres will be built at the site, along with associated car parking and service areas.<\/p>\n

Keith Wilson, development director at site owner and applicant PLP, hailed the application.<\/p>\n

He said: “These units will provide high-quality, new employment facilities for companies, either new to Crewe or existing businesses, which are currently constrained by their existing premises, who can relocate to deliver growth and investment in the borough.<\/p>\n

“If approved, we will develop out these units speculatively and are committed to start on site this year, delivering these completed units by summer next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

He says the development will generate a construction spend of nearly \u00a38 million and it will create almost 200 jobs once the site is fully operational.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he told members it will be targeted to distribution and manufacturing, adding there are \u2018no technical or environmental reasons\u2019 for rejecting the application.<\/p>\n

Cllr Steven Edgar (CON \u2013 Haslington) said the scheme \u2018should be welcomed\u2019 as there have not been any objections raised to him.<\/p>\n

He also told fellow members he was \u2018very impressed\u2019 by the site visit and believes the biodiversity-related measures in place are \u2018already working\u2019.<\/p>\n

The development will be served by single point of access connecting to a new fourth arm, off the nearby roundabout on Jack Mills Way.<\/p>\n

The authority\u2019s head of strategic infrastructure has determined the capacity assessments carried out confirmed Jack Mills Way \u2018would not suffer from capacity problems\u2019 as a result of the development within plot one.<\/p>\n

The remainder of the Basford West employment area will continue to be accessed from the southerly roundabout on Jack Mills Way near the A500, as originally approved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
