Jez Touch Cyclist - L'etape Du Tour

A Nantwich businessman is to tackle a gruelling cycling challenge in France in memory of his dad.

Jez Touch, from Rare Earth Digital, will take on the challenging L’Étape Du Tour – a stage of the Tour de France open to amateurs and ridden on closed roads through the French Alps.

He will tackle stage 20 of the tour which runs for a saddle-sore 135km from Albertville to Val Thorens this weekend (July 21).

Jez said: “I’ve wanted to ride the Etape for ages and this year I finally found the time, not just for the event itself but also for all the training required.

“I decided to use it to support the Alzheimer’s Society because dementia is something that affects most if not all of us, in my case it was my father who died of the disease a couple of years ago.

“The Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.

“Until the day a cure is found, they aim to help create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

“The L’Etape is definitely a challenge and I’m somewhere between excited and nervous about it.

“The length of it at 135km isn’t too bad but all the mountains are a little daunting, the route gains over 4.5km of height from start to finish!”
