A hair salon in Nantwich has trained its manager to be a first aided in Mental Health.
Francesco Group Nantwich was keen to put manager Jill Carey through the training to help support colleagues and clients experiencing mental health difficulties.
She underwent a course delivered by Respond Training, and now she is the first point of contact for anyone who is going through some form of mental health problem.
Jill will also work to identify early symptoms of ill mental health, start supportive conversations, provide reassurance & access the risk of self harm or suicide.
She can then signpost and encourage the appropriate professional support.
Jill has also trained to be an ambassador for Domestic Abuse with Staffordshire Womens Aid.
A spokesperson for the salon, based on Pillory Street, said: “By having a first aider for mental health we are hoping to reduce the stigma attached to mental health in the workplace and give immediate comfort and support to those who need it.
“Hair stylists aren’t always simply there to cut hair, they often act as confidants and a sympathetic ear.
“With 1 in 4 women experiencing Domestic Abuse in their lives, our aim is to support any client or team member who may need help.
“Jill will wear her ‘Ask Me’ badge in the salon to start conversations around Domestic Abuse with both men and women.”
