applestump records - steve cook, music

A new music record store in Nantwich is to open a temporary pop-up shop on Saturdays over the next four weeks.

We revealed last month how Steve Cook had put his lockdown boredom to good use by launching a new music store, called Applestump Records.

Steve was so frustrated at not being able to buy a vinyl record anywhere that he decided to run one himself – and Applestump Records was born.

Steve, who hails originally from Cwmbran in Wales, said the closure of traditional record shops sparked his decision to launch the new venture.

Now the lifelong music obsessive is delighted to have secured a venue for a pop-up shop for the next four weekends.

It will be situated above Miss Marmalade’s coffee shop on Pepper Street and will be open every weekend from April 17 to May 16 inclusive.

He hopes Applestump Records, Nantwich will pay homage to the “little shop in Cwmbran” he remembers as a youngster 25 years ago.

“The shop specialises in new vinyl records across the whole musical spectrum from alternative to indie, folk, rock, hip-hop, dance, funk and soul.

“If I do not currently hold stock of something you want, I am able to order it from one of the half-a-dozen distributors I have an account with.”

The shop is currently online at www.applestumprecords.com and there are more details of the pop-up shop.

Steve aims to build a following and enough stock to open his own full-time “bricks and mortar” store in Nantwich.
