A Shavington-based community fitness instructor and personal trainer has won Best Regional Instructor North West 2021 at The National Community Fitness Awards.
Self-employed Emma Wilkinson has been teaching in the Crewe and Nantwich area for 10 years.
She runs community sessions, teaching Clubbercise and Rockbox as well as offering personal training sessions.
The Community Fitness Awards launched in 2014 and recognises and rewards the community side of the fitness industry and those working within it.
Emma attended the event in Newcastle upon Tyne, with the intent to network with other community instructors.
“I was just so thrilled to just be nominated and never expected to win,” she said.
“Being classed in the same category as the industries best instructors was an incredible feeling, but to actually win has just been mind blowing!
“Community Fitness is so important because not everybody wants to be a member of a gym and pay for membership when they have no intention of using the full facilities.
“Community fitness classes are flexible and it’s more of a personal approach which really builds community spirit.
“As it is a community award, My classes are about providing a space where people feel they belong, where they’re accepted and supported no matter what they consider their fitness level to be.
“Being self-employed and the implications of Covid has been really hard work over last 12 months.
“But I was determined to keep my participants moving as fitness and movement is now more important than ever.
“But the situation just seem to bring us closer together, we were there for each other and motivated each other when we needed it most, we really do have a strong community and I’m just so pleased that it has been recognised and honoured.”
