Inner Trust interactive table for dementia patients

Community Interest Company Inner Trust based in Cheshire has launched a scheme to raise £7,150 for an Interactive Table for dementia sufferers.

The CIC, set up in 2017 to improve mental health in the community, uses non-traditional and innovative therapies based around music which connects people, invokes emotions and bridges cultures, genders and generations.

Music helps stimulate memory and start conversations with those suffering dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Spencer Hickson, who runs Inner Trust said: “I am a person-centred counsellor, music producer and DJ and have my own label and publishing company producing dance music and creating music for TV and adverts.

“Having seen the lack of support for young people during my time spent as a counsellor in secondary schools, I wanted to combine the fun and creativity of music with counselling and supporting people.

“I also have a specific passion for supporting the elderly who are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

The fundraising campaign is in the form of a Crowdfunder to buy an Interactive Table that helps to expand musical activities in care homes across Cheshire.

“We want to create a visual and musical session experience that multiple people can enjoy at the same time; stimulating movement, communication and mental engagement,” added Spencer.

“We want to enable those who are non-verbal or less verbally able to interact with peers, increase their physical exercise, confidence, social involvement and feeling of self-worth, promoting positive mental health and helping to build emotional resilience.

“The table can be used as a projector screen on the ceiling for those residents who are immobile.

“We want to help enable the resident to connect in, to spark memory, engage and bring joy and the power of curiosity and wonder as well as laughter into their life.

“Too often when our senior citizens reside in care homes, they lack passion they once had and give up on communicating with others.

“People with Alzheimer’s in particular are more prone to this as their day-to-day memory is poor.

“Our project, with your support will enable them the opportunity to access their longer term memories from their past which can be much stronger and interact with people with similar experiences providing them with a sense of being part of where they live and connection to others which is so vital for healthy wellbeing.”

They aim to raise £7,150 for the Interactive Table to support those affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

“We have trained staff and volunteers ready to create a visual and musical experience that multiple people can enjoy at the same time and for them to experience the fantastic benefits that these sessions can bring.

“We just need your support to facilitate the purchase of the Interactive Table.”
