security - Alpha Omega mental wellbeing

A South Cheshire employer has introduced new measures to protect the mental wellbeing of its large army of male and female office staff, security guards and door supervisors.

Alpha Omega Securities Ltd, based on Crewe Business Park, has implemented training designed to help build robust coping mechanisms to handle workplace stress and challenges from members of the public.

The sessions, which include a strong anti-bullying and equality message, are being rolled out across the company’s 250-strong workforce from office juniors to directors.

Operations director Andy Taylor said: “Our people are our greatest asset and we have put in place a number of policies to ensure every interaction is carried out ethically and without discrimination across the entire business.

“This includes Online Health & Safety and HR Compliance (IHASCO) courses to train staff on discrimination, harassment and stress management.

“These courses are for everyone at all levels, from front line staff through to all directors.

“Everyone has been pleased to participate and embrace all the key messages.”

Since the business was founded by local man Ken Lawton in 1997, Alpha Omega has grown into one of the region’s largest security providers with door supervisors working at many busy pubs and clubs.

The company also provides security at big events such as the Nantwich Show and has achieved the highest industry standard, BS 7960, for training staff in first aid and resolving conflict.

Nantwich man Mr Lawton, a former kick-boxer, said: “In my sport respect is everything and to work at Alpha Omega you must have strong moral values.

“Some roles, particularly public interfacing, can be demanding and to this end we have taken steps to ensure we have appropriate risk assessments in place to protect mental well-being and create a culture where there is full support.”

Mr Lawton, who worked as a doorman before establishing the company, added: “There’s more awareness of mental health nowadays and we hope to set an example in the industry and remove any taboo.

“Our open door policy encourages all to speak openly.”

The company is behind the new Alpha Omega Women Peace & Security (WPS) Foundation which is working to support women and children facing harm at home or in their community.
