Maddie Ashbrook - new business pop up shop

A former Brine Leas student in Nantwich is making a success of a Pop Up shop she launched during pandemic lockdown.

Maddie Ashbrook’s MOOand BOOM popped up in Green End, Whitchurch in September as a trial.

And it was so well received she has just signed a lease on the old Bowen’s store in the town.

The 21-year-old says her business promotes a sustainable lifestyle and wellbeing which she is passionate about.

When Maddie left Brine Leas she started work with an American company as product co-ordinator but was made redundant last year when Covid hit.

So she made a huge decision with her own business plan and testing the market.

Her ethical products are sourced with sustainable wholesalers from the UK, and include homewares, ceramics, lighting, textiles, fragrance and aromatherapy, crystal healing, pre-loved as well as sustainable fashion.

Maddie’s mum Stella is involved in the business part time and brings expertise from years in the wholesale fashion industry and as a specialist auctioneer.

Dana Griffiths who is store manager also has more than 30 years in retail and will be on hand to advise on choice pieces needed for home, workshops, health and well-being.

Maddie said “the changing world and the carnage of landfill” pushed her to embark on the project.

Each month a different charity benefits from profits made by the business.

Last year they raised more than £3,000 for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Children’s Society, End of Life Partnership and more.

A calendar of charities is on display in the store and donations for good ladies clothing are being accepted.

“Anything that does not get sold with MOOand BOOM goes to other charities that have the same footprint of nothing to landfill,” said Maddie.

“Material and trimmings are used for cushions which are filled with UK British Sheep’s Wool or Feather, which are both sustainable.

“And the workshops will benefit from left over fabrics for items to be made, a full circle of garments.”

Maddie also has a studio and workshop area which will open its doors to craft, spiritual, life affirming, health and fitness classes.

She hopes it will become a “real community hub” for like-minded people seeking support after the Covid pandemic.

“In these unprecedented times it is time for our communities to come together and embrace what our local businesses have to offer.

“The Team at MOOand BOOM with positive thoughts looks forward to welcoming you all, so come and say hello and receive a friendly welcome and positive vibes!”
