Yvette and Steve Burgin - salon job

A single mum who likes to play bingo hit the jackpot when she went for a haircut at Steven Burgin in Nantwich and came out with a new job.

Yvette Hinde, a trained hairdresser herself, took on a part-time role making sandwiches at Subway in Crewe after she became out of work at the height of the pandemic.

The 32 year-old who has worked in local salons since her first Saturday job sweeping up at 14 is now back doing what she loves most – cutting hair at the Steven Burgin salon on Hospital Street.

She said: “My mum was a hairdresser and I loved to watch her cutting while chatting to clients when I was a child.

“I love the buzz of a salon but as a single mum I needed work to cover my outgoings.

“I was in Nantwich by chance and called in Steve’s salon for a trim.

“We got talking and he offered me a job straight away. I’m enjoying every minute of working in a busy salon in the heart of Nantwich.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to do what I love most. It’s my dream job, I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot.”

Yvette, from Crewe, has specialist skills at barbering but has quickly mastered new colouring techniques at the salon which uses Joico American hair products.

Away from work she is mum to Dexter aged two and her hobby is to play bingo at Mecca in Crewe.

Salon owner Steve, who has more than 30 years in the industry, said: “I believe in hiring for attitude and personality and Yvette is a smasher.

“With the right can-do approach and rapport with clients, stylists can go far and open their own salon one day like I did.

“The salon is now working at full speed after the various lockdowns and Yvette’s passion for cutting and colouring is already shining through.”
