certificate - Maggie Thomason - Hough and District WI presents Local Hero cert to Steve Lawson - Nantwich Bookshop (1)

Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge has received a “Local Hero” certificate of appreciation from Hough and District WI, writes Jonathan White.

The certificate was awarded during the coronavirus emergency as the business is deemed to have been an outstanding member of the community for WI members.

Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge was thanked for its wonderful contribution throughout the crisis.

Maggie Thomason, Hough and District WI, said: “The idea came from our president, Jill Kitchen, as a means of recognising local businesses who had been innovative and supportive to the local community, during the very uncertain times of lockdown.

“Twelve certificates were awarded, all personally nominated by our members.

“Steve Lawson from the Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge was a typical example. He delivered books, cycling miles on his bike throughout south Cheshire.

“He arrived cheerfully on my doorstep, keeping a safe distance, having done a round trip from Hatherton which included Wybunbury, Hough, Weston and Haslington.”

Steve Lawson, Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge, said: “It’s so lovely to be recognised in this way, totally unexpected as it was great fun and no arduous task at all.”

Hough and District WI meet on the first Tuesday of each month in Hough Village Hall at 7.30pm.

They run a varied programme of events from games nights to gin tasting, as well as walking, baking, gardening, craft, writing, lunch, book club and a ladies choir.

Visitors are welcome to attend up to three meetings before making a decision to join, so come along and see what they get up to.
