War hero Simon Weston CBE has been confirmed as guest speaker at the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.

Much in demand as an inspirational speaker, Mr Weston will address businesses at a black tie event taking place at Crewe Hall on June 6.

Tickets are selling well for the evening and the Chamber has attracted high-profile sponsors.

Organisers say early booking is advisable.

The Caerphilly-born veteran, a former member of the Welsh Guards, has become known for his charity work and recovery from severe burns suffered during the Falklands War.

On June 8, 1982 he joined other members of his regiment on RFA Sir Galahad which was carrying ammunition and gallons of diesel and petrol.

The ship was bombed and set on fire by Argentine Skyhawk fighters and Mr Weston, just 20, suffered horrific burns.

His courage as he encountered numerous operations and efforts to support people living with disfigurements have been recognised many times.

He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1992 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2016.

Chamber Chief Executive Paul Colman said: “The Chamber Annual Business Dinner introduces a local audience to the most inspirational of guest speakers and this year we are delighted to announce Simon Weston, a national treasure, will join us at Crewe Hall.

“Simon’s message is one of single-minded determination, to not only accept what is, but to turn that to your advantage.

“His own career clearly demonstrates how a positive mental attitude can achieve great business goals.

“His irrepressible humour, infectious enthusiasm and immediately engaging personality, have made him the number one choice of many companies who invite him back to speak time and again.

“An inspiring and moving keynote speaker, Simon is also a wonderful and humorous after dinner speaker.

“Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit questions for Simon.”

The Chamber has secured big name support for the evening. Afford Bond Chartered Accountants of Nantwich and Air Products of Crewe are main sponsors.

Also supporting the evening are South Cheshire businesses Code Audio Visual, Crewe Hall, JS Bailey cheese and Roar Business Coaching.

Studio One Photography will be official photographers and master of ceremonies will be Mr Weston’s agent Rob Sproston.

Chamber events coordinator Daryl Williams said: “Tickets at £60 plus VAT include dinner in the stunning surroundings of the Long Gallery at Crewe Hall.

“There’s already considerable interest and we advise early booking.”
