I have been working in Alternative Medicine since 1977 – I began training in humanistic Psychotherapy in 1975 but in 1978 I experienced a minor epiphany about the power of Traditional Acupuncture to transform people’s lives during a few months of treatment for an injured knee. I damaged my knee cartilage playing football when I was 16 and it had given me a lot of pain for 10 years or more. I was sick of taking pain-killers and didn’t want the surgery so I sought out alternatives – I tried homoeopathy and osteopathy and experienced some benefits but not much help for my knee. Finally I tried Traditional Acupuncture, it was brilliant – my knee became much more mobile and pain-free and my life changed – my sleep improved, my volatile temper calmed down, my skin cleared up (acne), my vitality improved and I changed course. I abandoned my plans to become a psychotherapist and in 1979 I began training in Traditional Acupuncture at The College of Traditional Acupuncture UK, which I completed in 1982 with a Licentiate of Acupuncture. Over the next 20 years I completed my Bachelor of Acupuncture. Master of Acupuncture, Master Herbalist and 5 trainings in Bio-Energetic Regulatory Medicine. In my practice now, by way of B.E.R.M., I use a Vega-Expert machine (excellent diagnostic and treatment aid), Kosmed Treatment machine and a Rife machine.
As we entered the 21st century I re-visited my earlier interest in meditation and spiritual matters and I have recently completed trainings in Angelic Reiki to Master/Teacher level. I am still exploring Law of Attraction-style philosophies and the power of the mind to transform both itself and the health of the body.
I am qualified and insured in the therapies that I offer and I can apply a number of skills to almost any health complaint(s) and I am still surprised sometimes at a body’s ability to throw off disease and illness when the body is given the right assistance. “Our most recent building development on the Park View site has been the Piggeries conversion project.
This has transformed some old, derelict structures into a first class Sandwich Bar/Cafe and five further services office spaces. Some funding assistance was provided by grant from RDPE’s Growth Fund.
After studying at Salford Art college and progressing further to do a degree in Graphic Design at Salford University, Marc has gained extensive knowledge (25 years) of the design and printing industry, through working with and alongside some of the biggest printers in Manchester and Cheshire.

The Swan has stood at the heart of Marbury for more than 250 years.
But for a couple of years, it had to close before new life could be breathed back into it.
In 2016, with no real investment from the previous owners for many years, the 19th century built hostelry was really in a bit of a mess. Some ruthlessness was called for.
By April 2018 The Swan glided back to the epicentre of the village.
Marbury has 11 National Heritage listed black and white Medieval/Tudor buildings, including the Swan’s own outbuildings.
And a 16th-century church that overlooks the splendid Big Mere (See History Page).
Well, the resuscitated Swan fits well with all that.
Real ales, fires, books and patio
There’s a five hand-pull real ale bar (see Beers) and two main dining areas plus a Garden room, a new addition to the building, providing plenty of extra dining space. For cooler weather, wood burners flicker merrily in rooms which feature natural, reclaimed materials, wood panelling, beams and solid wooden or tiled floors along with antique furniture and colourful rugs.
And then there are the books; there are some 2000, supplied locally by Barn Books, scattered throughout – lots of interesting stuff, novels, history, gardening, cooking, whatever you fancy if you have the time. They sit alongside lovely old black and white photographs and classic pictures.
And a really cosy room for small groups is the ‘Cellar Room’ – don’t worry that’s actually above the beer cellar not in it – adorned with old whisky and wine bottles and more classic paintings. For the warmer drinking weather and alfresco dining, there’s a large paved patio with a rustic ‘log fencing’ touch.
Changing menu
In the ‘back’ we have an ultra-modern energy and labour saving kitchen with clever infra-red grills and something fancy called electric induction stoves to make for a pretty efficient food service. From here head chef Matt Marren will mastermind his regularly changing menu – including fresh fish daily – painstakingly developed to be based on honest, fresh ingredients but with his own cheffy spin.
