GOAT front plus door sign

EXCLUSIVE
These behind-the-scenes pictures capture the last preparations behind the new GOAT sports bar in Nantwich which is set to launch this Friday!

After three months of blood, sweat and stress, the team behind the new venture on the corner of High Street and Waterlode are set to kick open their doors.

Nantwich News revealed plans for the bar back in May – and was given exclusive access just four days before the opening day, as workmen and women work furiously to complete everything needed.

GOAT looks set to be a “game changer” with a venue offering amazing live sport on 14 screens plus top “scran” including bespoke burgers created by Nantwich Farm Shop, Cheerbrook.

Those behind it include “Only Scrans” social media influencer Jono Yates, “Beauty of the Feast” digital channel creator Sam Hulme, and The Leopard pub managers Sam Rock and Gary Evans.

The venue, which will sit up to 150 people plus plenty of standing room, is also creating up to 35 new full and part time jobs in the bar and kitchen areas.

The team have spent a whopping £170,000 between them revamping the venue which was formerly Kennedy’s and before that, Harrisons.

They have spent more than £5,000 on TV screens to show every major sporting event possible, including the main 80-inch screen at one end of the bar.

There will also be a “mobile” TV screen in the outdoor area ready for screening World Cup games next summer.

And there’s a “darts booth” in one corner of the venue where friends can “pay and play” while watching top level sport.

Punters will be able to try the signature 4% GOAT lager brewed especially for the venue, as well as choice of other well known brands like Stella Artois, Staropramen, Madri, Guinness, Koppaberg ciders and a range of local guest brews.

Working with local companies was important to the team.

They use Beer Trading Co in Middlewich as a drinks supplier, as well as Cheerbrook in Nantwich and Palin’s Butchers in Crewe for creating bespoke burgers and sausages for the food menu.

And there will be a range of local gins introduced over the coming months, including the “Spotted Cat” gin made for The Leopard pub on London Road.

“It’s been hard work,” says Gary, as he sorts through the front pages of retro sports magazines like “Shoot” to create posters for the bathrooms.

“Like all these, things there’s more to it than you initially think.”

The team have spent £20,000 more than originally budgeted – but they are not deterred.

Jono says: “Getting the food right is massive for us. We’ve worked with Cheerbrook, taste tested a range of blends and we’re excited what we’ll be able to offer.

“We’re going to deliver something that people genuinely want to eat and shout about.”

The team has been interested in the venue for some time before they bought it, Sam Rock added.

“We knew it had great potential, and when Kennedy’s moved out the owners got in touch.

“It’s a great location. It’s been full on getting it ready.

“Structurally the building was sound, but a lot of the work has been getting the air conditioning and the electrics right.”

And it’s almost over the line – with just four days go.

Barring any major late setbacks, GOAT will be open from 11.30am this Friday, August 8th.

Its opening hours will be 11.30am to 12 midnight Sunday to Thursday, and 11.30am to 2am Fridays and Saturdays.
