A key player for Nantwich Town has landed himself a Premier League transfer to Sunderland!
Dabbers press officer Ashley Houghton, who has served the club for two years, has secured a dream job in the media department at the Stadium of Light.
Staffordshire University journalism graduate Ash (pictured) starts his new life in Wearside on Monday and can’t wait to make the step up from Evo-Stik League.
“I can’t thank Nantwich Town Football Club enough,” he said.
“My role with the Dabbers has been the springboard to me getting this job and everyone at the Weaver Stadium has been fantastic during my time with the club.
“Obviously, I’ll still keep an eye out for Nantwich’s results and, who knows, perhaps the Dabbers will visit the Stadium of Light in the FA Cup third round next season!”
Nantwich chairman Jon Gold said: “Everyone at the club is thrilled for Ashley.
“He has worked hard for the club, especially last season when we were in the media spotlight with our run to the FA Cup first round.
“We all wish him well and are delighted his time with the club has helped him towards such a fantastic opportunity.”
Ash’s role at Nantwich will be filled by Rob Summerscales and James Briscoe.
Rob, 23, will be club’s PR Officer and main point of contact for press and media enquiries.
He also at Staffordshire University in the final year of a sports journalism degree, and is a keen follower of Workington FC in his native Cumbria.
James, from Middlewich, will be e-media officer and will develop the official club website and extend the club’s presence in social media outlets Twitter and Facebook.
“I’m pleased to welcome Rob and James to the club,” added Jon.
“They are young lads with bags of enthusiasm and great experience for their age and I’m sure they will continue the good work that Ash has done.”
