A Nantwich man has helped raise more than £4,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association by staging a live music event and auction.
Stephen Harding, 64, ran the event at the Bhurtpore Inn, in Aston, which saw the band Flight 505 play a special reunion set for the night.
The effort means Stephen, inspired by rugby league star Rob Burrow’s story, has raised a total of £16,717.87 for the MND Association.
Stephen said: “I was a huge sportsman myself in years gone by, and to see other sportspeople struggle with this disease spurred me on to support this honourable cause.
“After seeing people deteriorate with MND, I will always support the MND Association as much as I possibly can with my fundraising efforts.”
Money was raised through the sale of raffle tickets and an auction.
Overwhelmed by the support locally, Stephen added: “I am so grateful to everyone that contributed in any way – you are the reason I managed to raise so much for the MND Association.
“Huge thank you to the team at the Bhurtpore Inn, the band Flight 505 and every single person who attended to support me and my team on the night.”
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord.
It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe.
It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is no cure.
Stephen said he is not stopping his fundraising there and already has more plans you can get involved with.
They will be at Berries in Wrenbury for a fireworks and laser show spectacular on Sunday 2nd November from 4.30pm.
Tickets are available from Berries in advance – £10 adults and £5 children.
