Acton AOS have delivered another wonderful production this year, with the family favourite Oliver, directed by Debbie Cornock which is showing at The Lyceum this week.
We are blessed to have a number of different theatre societies in the area.
But I’m always amazed by the talent and courage of the younger members of these groups who go on stage and give 110% in every single performance they do, and this production is a wonderful example of that.
The show opened strongly with Food, Glorious Food. The choreography was outstanding, and it was a great indication of what was to come.
The group numbers involving the ensemble and Fagins gang were all well produced and looked amazing. Every single cast member looked comfortable on stage.
The night I went, Freddie Barlow was playing Oliver. He won the audience over from the moment he asked for more.
His rendition of Where is Love? was beautiful and the audience showed appreciation with a huge round of applause.
Adam Goode was suitably devious and dastardly as Fagin. The numbers You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two, and Reviewing the Situation were performed brilliantly, full of character and comic timing.
Alec Sweeting brought the Artful Dodger to life. I loved his performance especially in the numbers Consider Yourself and I’d do Anything.
For me, one of the stars of the show was Emily McAvoy who played Nancy. Her performance never faltered throughout the show and her voice seemed to fill the theatre.
The cast received a well-deserved standing ovation on opening night.
If you’re a fan of musicals, this is definitely not to be missed. Oliver is running until Saturday 25 October at The Lyceum.
Congratulations to all at Acton AOS.
