A century from Rob Jones was not quite enough to help Nantwich Cricket Club to a win at Didsbury in another high-scoring first team match.

After the home side made 285-7 from their 55 overs, the Dabbers looked well on course for victory as Jones (pictured – 116) and skipper Luke Robinson (76) put on 100 for the fourth wicket.

Robinson hit six sixes in his 37-ball innings but after he fell, there was a late collapse and Nantwich failed to make three from the final over and had to settle for a draw, finishing on 283-9.

And to complete a disappointing weekend for the Dabbers, their ECB National Club Championship challenge came to an end when they were beaten at Whitehouse Lane by Barnt Green CC.

The Birmingham and District League side won the toss and elected to field, making regular inroads into the Nantwich line-up, even though opener Ben Wright (86 no) carried his bat.

Ray Doyle hit 37 but the home team’s total of 195 never looked truly competitive and an unbeaten 95 from Jacques Banton – brother of England player Tom – helped Barnt Green home with five wickets and seven overs to spare.

This weekend brings another big game to Whitehouse Lane as the first team take on ECB Premier League leaders Hyde CC. The game starts at 11 am, and all spectators are welcome. Bar and catering facilities will be open.

There was a much-needed win for the Nantwich second team on Saturday as Alan Chesters’ team was boosted by the arrival of Lou Vincent.

The former New Zealand international hit a classy 86 as Nantwich made 240 after electing to bat against Toft CC.

And that proved to be plenty as Denny Morgan starred with the ball, taking 6-27 as the visitors were bowled out for 137.

There was also a good win for the Saturday thirds as Mark French claimed 3-24 after Nantwich had chosen to field first against Oakamoor CC.

The visitors could only manage 76 all out and and opening partnership of 45 between Cameron Langdale (26) and Oscar Finn (24no) set the platform for an eight-wicket victory.

There was a defeat, though, for the Sunday thirds, who were set a target of 210 at Didsbury.

Callum Pearson made 35 and Gareth Mitchell made 27, but the visitors fell 78 runs short.

In midweek, there was another excellent win for the women’s first team, who progressed to the semi-final of the T20 Knockout Cup with a 32-run victory over Chester Boughton Hall.

After electing to bat, Sarah Nettleton hit an unbeaten 74 as the Dabbers made 150-3 from their 20 overs.

And Eleanor Sinker, Bethan Hughes and Morganne Prince then took a couple of wickets apiece as Chester were restricted to 118-7.

The first team are in action at Whitehouse Lane this Sunday when they take on Greenfield CC in the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League. The game starts at 1.30pm and all spectators are welcome.
