The annual ‘Audlem Festival of Transport’ returns this Sunday July 27 on Audlem Playing Field, writes Jonathan White.
The free event promises something for everyone and is one of the highlights of the village calendar.
It will feature a parade of hundreds of vehicles – including vintage and classic cars, commercial vehicles, tractors, and motorcycles.
The vehicles begin assembling at Hankelow Green from 9am, and sets off at 11am, making its way to Audlem, with arrivals at the Playing Field (off Cheshire Street) from around 11.15am.
The display continues until 4.30pm.
There will be live entertainment from Moonlight Serenade, bringing the sounds of Glenn Miller, and Pinxton Puppets will keep younger visitors entertained.
There will be food and drink vendors on the car park, serving up hot and cold food, refreshments, and local ice cream.
A pop-up outdoor bar at the back of the annexe will offer drinks.
The event is organised by ASET (Audlem Special Events Team), a group of local residents supported by volunteers.
An ASET representative said: “We’re thrilled to be celebrating 26 years of this fantastic event.
“Every year, between 3,000 and 4,000 visitors join us, and this year’s parade features over 250 vehicles.
“Huge thanks to all the owners and drivers – we’re proud to host such a spectacular display!”
Alongside the Festival of Transport is the popular Historic Boats Gathering, organised by the Historic Narrow Boat Club.
This free event invites visitors to view preserved working boats (1850–1960), moored along the towpath from the main road bridge to Lock 15.
