A “Proms” style concert at St Mary’s Church in Acton near Nantwich has helped raise more than £2,000 for the Royal British Legion.

It was held on Remembrance Sunday and was organised by Stephan Davies as the 4th ‘Proms at Acton’ concert.

Nick Birch, musical director, conducted the Nantwich Concert Band as they gave a breath-taking performance to a sell-out audience.

Professional sopranos Jessica Thayer and Sarah Williamson captivated the audience with the quality and purity of their voices.

Accompanying the vocalists with profound musical expression, Sally Halsey gave a stunning performance on the piano.

The programme featured a mix of patriotic favourites and classical works, including Imperial Echoes by Arnold Safroni, Nimrod by Elgar, Land of Hope and Glory, and Fantasia on British Sea Songs.

Jessica and Sarah delighted the audience with solos such as I Feel Pretty (West Side Story), Don’t Cry For Me Argentina (Evita), Song to the Moon (Rusalka), and Mein Herr, Marquis (Die Fledermaus).

The concert concluded in spectacular fashion with a rousing rendition of Pomp and Circumstance, during which the audience proudly stood to sing and wave their Union Jack flags.

The Royal British Legion will receive a donation of over £2,000.

A cheque will be presented to the Royal British Legion at the Christmas Concert on 13th December.
