Tributes have been paid to a popular Willaston councillor who has died.
Cllr Frank Morton passed away on Saturday night at Willaston Social Club after a suspected cardiac arrest.
A Willaston Parish Council spokesperson said: “Born and raised in Willaston, Cllr Morton was widely respected by fellow members and by residents throughout the community.
“This summer, Frank would have marked a milestone of 30 years of dedicated service as a councillor, during which time he made a significant and lasting contribution to the community.
“The council’s thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. The council flag on Mike Heywood Green has been lowered to half-mast in respect.”
Members of Willaston Social Club posted on their social channels their own tribute to Cllr Morton, who was a well-loved member of the club.
They said: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news one of our cherished members suffered a cardiac arrest.
“Despite the immediate efforts of our staff, members and paramedics, we are deeply saddened to report they did not survive.
