The first signs of spring are showing across South Cheshire as snowdrops push through the ground despite recent weeks of rain, wind and even the odd flurry of snow.
These images by local photographer Jonathan White show the first flowers of the year – delicate white blooms which have started to appear in Wistaston, Willaston, Nantwich and Acton.
The colour offers us all a welcome lift after the long, cold and grey winter months.
Snowdrops play an important role for wildlife, providing a vital early source of pollen and nectar for bees and other pollinators that venture out on milder winter days.
Traditionally associated with hope and renewal, the appearance of snowdrops is widely seen as a sign that spring is just around the corner.
Adding to the seasonal change, crocuses and daffodils have also begun to emerge locally, hinting that brighter days may not be too far away.
However, in the short term forecasters say we are going to be hit by more rain and a drop in temperatures as we head towards this weekend.
