“Costume Through the Ages” is the latest exhibition in the Millennium Gallery at Nantwich Museum.
The display explores how clothing has changed over the years.
A series of large banners specially painted for the museum is on display, showing types of dress ranging from a Roman soldier to a Victorian lady.
Treasured items from the museum’s reserve collection are brought to light in the exhibition.
Highlights include a Cheshire Regiment military dress jacket, a charming Victorian love letter accompanied by fine ladies’ accessories, and a rare 18th century tortoiseshell pocket watch by James Green of Nantwich.
There are also displays on award-winning shoemaker J. H. Singleton and celebrated fashion editor Isabella Blow, both former local residents.
Visitors can have fun assembling their own outfits with a dress-up wardrobe of period clothing, and try their hand at the costume quiz.
Admission to the exhibition is free which runs until Saturday January 9.
