Pupils in Stapeley have enjoyed an “egg-citing” term after welcoming the arrival of 12 newly-hatched chicks!
The Pear Tree Primary School youngsters teamed up with class teacher Lucy Newman to incubate their own chicks.
Mrs Newman said: “We decided this year as part of our curriculum pledge, that we would incubate our own chicks, having not done it before we weren’t certain what our success rate would be.
“We clearly looked after them very well as all 12 arrived safe and well on day 21 and 22!
“The children across the school have gained so much from this learning experience.
“The awe and wonder in their eyes when they arrived in school after the bank holiday to find 12 little chicks sitting under the heat lamp in class was one that makes learning magical.”
Headteacher Boo Edleston added: “Hands-on experiences are vital for children and something we really embed across the children’s learning journey at Pear Tree.
“When Lucy suggested chicks I knew it would be a fabulous adventure for us all but was rather taken a back when she said all 12 had arrived!
“I’m delighted we have already found new homes for them once they are a little bigger and think this will become a regular event in the Pear Tree calendar in the years ahead.”
Elsewhere in the school, preparations are underway for the third annual 5km, fun run ‘Pear Tree Pound the Park’ on Thursday June 6 at 6pm on Barony Park.
Matt Greasby, Year 3 teacher, said: “This is now an established event for the friends and family of Pear Tree but we would like to see far more families and local runners joining us.
“We are fortunate to have the support of Keith Hancock of UK Triathlon who lays out the course and participants can either run, walk or toddle 1.5km. 3km or 5km.
“It is open to all and last year we had over 200 participants.”

All monies raised are split between Pear Tree School, The Nantwich Foodbank and St Luke’s Hospice.
