Nantwich Town youngster Troy Bourne warns fans not to write the Dabbers off ahead of their massive FA Cup clash with National League side AFC Fylde, writes Fred Dobberson.
It’s only the third time in the club’s history they have reached the FA Cup 1st Round Proper.
And they are expecting a bumper crowd when they welcome AFC Fylde to the Weaver Stadium this Saturday November 9.
Bourne is relishing the opportunity to play in his second First Round Proper appearance at just 21 years old as a graduate of the Nantwich Town academy.
After a tough start to the season on the sidelines, Bourne jumped at the chance to play by scoring in his first start of the 2019/20 campaign.
He netted the winner in the tense 1-0 victory against Vanarama National League North high-flyers, King’s Lynn Town, which put the Dabbers in the hat for the FA Cup First Round.
“It’s great for me to be back in the starting eleven, and to score a goal in my first game back is an indescribable feeling, I didn’t know what to do with myself!”
The defender is looking forward to the prospect of showcasing the team’s footballing ability in front of what is sure to be a big crowd on Saturday.
“Playing in front of a packed Weaver Stadium will be brilliant,” he said.
“It will bring the community together and is a great chance to showcase what we’re about as a club.”
AFC Fylde will be hoping to to cancel out any chance of the Dabbers booking their first ever appearance in the Second Round Proper, with Bourne and the rest of the squad fully aware of their quality.
However, Bourne is excited for the opportunity for a potential cup upset against the Coasters.
“We all know it’s going to be tough playing against a team like Fylde,” he added.
“But it won’t stop us giving our all and also giving them a run for their money.”
Bourne believes the Dabbers should not be written off this weekend.
“We have every chance of making it through to the second round, and from our performances in previous rounds we have every chance of doing so.”
Admission is £11 for adults, £8 for concessions and £3 for U16s, who are free when accompanied by a full-paying adult.
Supporters are reminded that the game is neither segregated nor all-ticket.
To guarantee a seat in the Optimum Pay Group Main Stand, you are urged to arrive to the ground as early as possible as the club are expecting a large gate.
