winter - key workers testing - COVID-19 deaths - MCHFT careers fair at Leighton Hospital

Dear Editor,
I proposed at the August meeting of the Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council that they should object strongly to the proposed banning of walk-ins to the A&E at Leighton Hospital, which is within the Parish boundaries.

It was passed with just one abstention.

The draft minute is below.

I would urge all local residents to write to the Crewe and Nantwich MP and the Hospital Trust to express their opposition to this huge reduction in a local, well used NHS service.

Draft Minute.
20/057 NHS ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY
20/057.1 Cllr Silvester referred to the Government’s proposals to remove the facility to ‘walk-in’ to A&E departments across the country. Other than arriving by ambulance, patients would have to book an appointment. There had been no public consultation on this, despite this being a legal requirement. It was suggested that this would have an adverse effect on access to GPs and this would require consideration as part of any proposals.
RESOLVED – that the Council strenuously objects to this proposal and conveys this to the Local MPs, the Secretary of State for Health, Chief Executive of NHS England, Chief Executive of Mid Cheshire NHS Trust, the Leader of the Borough Council and the Ward Councillors.

The lack of consultation would also be questioned.

Yours faithfully,

Cllr Brian Silvester
