Winners of Nantwich Food Festival “Lockdown Awards” have been honoured by organisers.
The awards, held in place of this year’s Food Festival which was cancelled by the Covid pandemic, aimed to highlight the best community people and organisations.
And organisers received hundreds of nominations across all the categories, with the winners receiving their awards.
Among the winners were Clem’s Traditional Greengrocers (pictured), who won the Business Positivity Award which celebrates businesses that have shown exceptional initiative and customer satisfaction.
One nominator said of Clem’s: “These guys have been a Godsend to those shielding, including my 87-year-old mum, delivering high quality fruit and veg weekly”, while another said “super-friendly, efficient, good value and a lifeline to many”.
Claire, from Clem’s, said: “This award means so much to us! We’ve had a number of tough years before the box idea came and saved us!”
Local Food Business award went to Coral Reef Chip Shop on Pillory Street.
One of their nominators said “Coral Reef have been sending out food packages to people in need, and to NHS workers; they deserve to win this award” while another said “What wonderful, kind people they are; they have stepped up in a crisis to support others in need”.
The Lockdown Kitchen Creations award was won by Caroline Rees who “baked weekly during lockdown” to support NHS colleagues, and decided to teach herself to make stunning cakes for her two children for their lockdown birthdays.
Covid Community Heroes honoured honour key workers and volunteers who stepped up and responded to the help needed by others.
Joint winners were Georgia Speet who “kept our Stapeley community alive and optimistic throughout lockdown, with her huge and varied range of initiatives including her Sponsor a Stone scheme”.
The other winners were and Gary Socha and Aris Tsinias who “made and sold cupcakes and Greek dishes to raise much needed funds for local charities, who have suffered through the pandemic”.
Young People’s Award was won by Isabella McKinney and Oliver Fogg.
Isabella was praised by many: “Bella always thinks of others, and has taken on some crazy challenges to raise money for the Wingate Centre” and “She is a wonderful girl who has baked cakes to give to NHS workers to keep them going”.
Oliver, 10, ran one mile per day for 26 days – a marathon, in aid of Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charitable Fund, as the NHS does so much for all of us.
Festival Chairwoman Christine Farrall said: “These awards have captured the imagination of local people, and the Festival Team is delighted to announce the winners, and to congratulate all those who were nominated.

The Nantwich Food Festival team is planning for the 2021 Festival, which will takes place 3rd 4th and 5th September 2021.
