A young cancer patient from Nantwich took part in a four-day adventure with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust
Ed, 19, joined the trust to take part in sailing, canoeing, high ropes, cycling, archery and orienteering at the Essex Outdoors Centre in Bradwell.
He finished cancer treatment in September last year for a brain tumour at Alderney Children’s Hospital.
And he was joined by 18 other young people from around the UK, all in recovery from cancer.
It was Ed’s second trip with the trust.
Ed (pictured, right) said: “Socialising with other young people in a similar situation who are the same age as me is great because they know where you are coming from and what it is like.
“The trust does a brilliant job very year and I am amazed by the work they do and the effect they have!”
The Essex Outdoor Centre is a coastal residential venue, based on the River Blackwater Estuary.
The four-day adventure enables young people to take part in water and land activities to help build confidence after finishing treatment.
The Trust takes young people between the ages of 8-24, in recover from cancer, on sailing trips around the UK, developing long term relationships through the Return to Sail and their Volunteering programs.
To date, it has helped more than 1,500 young people take part in the trips.
The Trust receives no government funding and relies on voluntary donations to provide sailing trips free of charge to the young people.
Founder of the Trust, Dame Ellen MacArthur said: “Bradwell is a very special place.
“It’s great that the Trust is back there and I’m so pleased all the young people who have been this weekend have had such a good time.”

Thanks for this article – not strictly correct as Ed has been on at least 5 trips with the trust and is now looking to become a volunteer for them in the future. Also Ed had a brain tumour aged 9 and finished his main treatments in 2010 – but this is still great publicity for a tremendously worthy cause!
