A South Cheshire garden designer will take centre stage at Eve Ensler’s world renowned “V*gina Monologues” to support Greater Manchester women fleeing domestic abuse.

Elizabeth Buckley, 54, will join 12 other women at the Birdcage nightclub in Manchester tomorrow (March 8).

They will lead a VDay performance to raise awareness and funds for the Birdhouse Fund, a charity which helps vulnerable women in the region.

Elizabeth, who celebrates her birthday on VDay, presents a gardening slot on Crewe and Nantwich radio station Redshift Radio.

She will be performing a personal monologue highlighting the plight many women face to survive domestic violence.

Elizabeth, who runs Elizabeth Buckley Garden Design, said: “Having firsthand experience of the devastating effect domestic violence can have on women and families, I was keen to be a part of the Birdhouse Fund’s efforts to offer support to these women.

“As the show is set to be the biggest, cause-driven celebration of International Women’s Day in the region, I have to admit the nerves are starting to kick in but I am thrilled to be a part of such a fantastic cause.”

Jane Kenyon, co-founder of the Birdhouse Fund, added: “The statistics surrounding domestic violence have always been alarming however, with refuges closing down, our vulnerable women are resorting to sleeping in petrol stations and tents to escape.

“The Birdhouse Fund is dedicated to helping these women, and what more appropriate time to raise awareness and funds than on International Women’s Day.”

The Birdcage opens at 6.30pm tomorrow. VIP ticket holders will enjoy a cocktail reception, a shopping alley and raffle before the performance commences at 8pm.
