A new service aimed at helping elderly and house-bound people has been launched by three entrepreneurs near Nantwich.

Peter Beckett, Nicola Hopwood-Clarke and Ian Hopwood hope their Keeping In Touch Network will improve lives of the elderly and less mobile.

The firm, based at Combermere between Nantwich and Whitchurch, offers a Companionship Call service to those struggling to get out and about.

Calls are made using voice and visual communication via Skype, which allows customers to hear and see a KIT companion and anyone else they wish to contact.

KIT believe research shows this visual interaction can enhance quality of life and mental awareness in old age.

With growing numbers of people aged over 75 living alone in rural areas like South Cheshire, bosses think the idea has huge potential.

Peter Beckett said: “We will be developing the company from small regional hubs, learning what works best for people in that area.

“We would be delighted to hear from people who would like to work as one of our Companions or who knows anyone else who might benefit from this social service.”

Nicola Hopwood-Clarke added: “The technology is here and we will help people access it.

“The demise of the family unit and the splintering of local communities can be countered with having a friendly face regularly calling up.

“Our Companions really enjoy taking the time to have a chat.”

The directors are now looking for a fourth member of the team to work on the sales side.

They want someone in or nearing retirement, happy to work flexible hours, who can drive, and who can demonstrate the service to customers.
