Happy Heritage, Audlem Festival 2012

A South Cheshire company specialising in vintage events proved a big hit at the 12th Audlem Music and Arts Festival.

Family-run Happy Heritage, based in Hankelow near Nantwich, introduced the a “Pop-Up 1920s Speakeasy” to the festival to give punters a taste of the roaring 20s.

It included a monochrome décor, props and an original flapper dress, along with stunning jazz vocalist Bexi Owen (pictured) who sang work of composers like Gershwin and artists like Ella Fitzgerald.

Charleston lessons were offered with demonstrations, and younger visitors enjoyed “The Academy for Performing Arts” which showcased routines from Bugsy Malone.

Visitors also engaged in jazz-inspired activities including flapper head-dress making, a “pop-up” museum, a live gramophone medley and 1920s quiz.

Award-winning Happy Heritage specialises in vintage events and authentic prop hire, with more than 650 pieces spanning 100 years.

Laura Jackson-Woods, who runs the business with her partner and daughters, said: “It’s important to me to support local events and Audlem has a wide selection to get involved in.

“Looking at the diverse line up for the 12th Audlem Music & Arts Festival, I knew I had to get involved and wanted to do something different than many of the other vintage inspired activities over the Jubilee weekend.

“The festival attracts families, elderly people, young couples and the elements we added to the pop-up club aimed to attract visitors from across this spectrum.”

“And in the spirit of one of Cheshire’s largest free music & arts festivals, we made all these activities in the speakeasy available to participate in and/or watch free of charge.”
