Enterprising pupils at a Wistaston school made their own burger – which is selling like hotcakes at a Nantwich farm shop!

Youngsters at The Berkeley Primary School rose to the challenge to create a vegetarian BBQ product as part of Enterprise Week.

Five teams of Year Six pupils spent two weeks researching, creating and developing ideas.

And one tasty recipe was so good it’s been a hit with customers at Cheerbrook Farm Shop, off Newcastle Road, Nantwich.

During the challenge, youngsters learnt about market research, product development, packaging, marketing and margins.

Recipe ideas included stuffed pepper and feta parcels, vegetable kebabs and vegetable balls.

But the winning idea was a vegetarian burger made with potato, onion, courgette, carrot and cheese.

Cheerbrook spokesman Andrew Shufflebotham said: “We were delighted to be asked to organise this experience for the Berkeley children.

“They came up with some fantastic ideas and some very colourful leaflets and logos. Customers are very interested in the story behind the burgers and they are flying off the shelves.”

The Berkeley Burgers were originally going to be available for two weeks at the end of July.

But because of popular demand, they will now be on sale throughout August as well.
