Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

By Claire Faulkner
Members of the audience at The Lyceum in Crewe are invited to sit back and relax for the current production of “Sweeney Todd”.

Although, when you see what happens to the customers who sit in Sweeney’s chair, you may find that a little difficult!

For their 90th Anniversary, Crewe Amateur Musicals Society present the tale of the demon barber of Fleet Street, a musical thriller full of dramatic song and dance.

Dean Lockett gave a strong and dark performance as ‘Sweeney’, cast opposite as ‘Mrs Lovett’ was Joanne Stubbs, who always gives a great performance.

Tickets are still available, so if you like your theatre with a little bite, or maybe a shepherd’s pie made with real shepherd, head down to the Lyceum this week.

  1. I saw it with 3 friends on Thursday. We all left traumatised by the throat slashing! Seriously, I found it an enthralling evening; Jonathan’s comments summed it up exactly (and Dean Lockett sings better than Johnny Depp!).

  2. I saw the final performance this evening. Anyone watching would struggle to see that it was an amateur production. The band, the sets, the choreography, the acting & singing of the cast etc were all superb. There was even some realistic throat slashing!

I’m already looking forward to their production of The Sound of Music in March next year.
