The third annual summer fayre and balloon race at Richmond Village Nantwich proved a huge success.

More than £1,100 was raised for St Luke’s Hospice from stalls, games and entertainment at the centre off London Road.

Stalls included gifts and handmade crafts and jewellery, while children were kept entertained with face painting and a Punch & Judy show.

The tombola stall sold out in record time, while the Richmond Nantwich stall with handmade gifts made by residents and staff alike did a roaring trade.

Many sat outside listening to live music of “Street Jazz” and watching as 100s of balloons were blown up ready for the grand finale.

Local community radio station The Cat broadcast throughout the day.

400 balloons were released by Jess Wiles-Reading, representing St Luke’s, and local businessman Graham Teesside, sponsor of the event.

Some tickets have already been returned with the furthest so far being from Leicestershire.

Alison Harding, Village advisor, said: “We are delighted the event was such a success.

“Everybody worked really hard and we were extremely grateful to all the volunteers on the day, including the lovely ladies from Richmond’s own Sports and Social Club.”

Nicola Tooke, spokeswoman for the Village, added: “I have close connections with St Luke’s as both my mum and dad were looked after by them.

“It is fantastic we have raised this amount of money in one day and, on behalf of everyone involved I would like to thank Graham Teesside for helping us to do this by sponsoring the event.”
