Police are hunting a man who threatened shop staff with a gun during a South Cheshire attempted robbery.

Three terrified female employees agreed to hand over money but the robber ran out empty-handed, say police.

The incident happened at the News Food and Booze store in Laura Street, Crewe on Tuesday (August 6) at about 9.40pm.

It’s not clear whether the revolver-style weapon was real or imitation. The gun was not discharged and no one was injured.

It’s believed the man ran off down the alleyway to Claughton Avenue, crossed Claughton Avenue and entered another alley which led to The Circle where he ran past two women walking in the same direction.

He is described as white, medium build, 5ft 8ins, wearing dark clothes including a hooded jacket and boots.

Det Con Jessica Kusiar said: “Thankfully the women were not injured during their ordeal.

“Incidents such as this are rare and, although no firearm was discharged and no injuries were reported, we take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and will do all we can to trace whoever is responsible.

“In order to help us progress with our inquiries we are particularly keen to speak to the two women the offender ran past in The Circle just after the offence was committed.”

Anyone with information contact DC Kusiar on 101 quoting incident number 1035 of 6 August 2013, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
