A man has been charged in connection with a series of knifepoint robberies across South Cheshire.

Nicholas Andrew Overton, 35, was arrested in Crewe by Cheshire Police investigating three incidents.

Overton was charged with the robbery of the Co-op store in Haslington, Crewe, on September 12.

He was also charged with a knifepoint robbery in Park News in Brown Street, Macclesfield, on August 30, and a knifepoint robbery at the Wine Cellar in Oulton Road, Stone on September 8.

Police also charged him with being an unlawfully at large temporarily released prisoner from HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington.

Detectives made the arrest at a house on School Crescent, Crewe, yesterday (September 19).

Overton is due to appear at Crewe Magistrates today (September 20).

A 38-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of harbouring an escaped prisoner. She has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
