Aaron Burns, Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town earned themselves a hard-fought point in a 2-2 draw away at Stamford.

The Dabbers came back from conceding a second minute penalty and were only seven minutes away from grabbing all three points.

The defence was caught napping just moments into the match, and the hosts fired the spot-kick passed as helpless Jack Cudworth.

But Danny Johnson’s men dusted themselves down and slowly gained control of the game.

And they deservedly drew level in the 36th minute with a penalty of their own, which top scorer Aaron Burns (pictured) fired accurately into the bottom corner.

Early in the second period, Max Harrop almost made it 2-1 to Nantwich when his 30-yard free-kick crashed off the crossbar.

Pressure from the visitors paid off in the 65th minute when Steve Foster was alive in the box to fire home.

But just as it looked like Nantwich would hold on comfortably, they were undone by a strike from Nabil Shariff in the 83rd minute.

The draw in front of around 330 supporters leaves Nantwich in 12th place in Evo-Stik Premier League, seven points off the play-off places.
