Dodgy pic, words and music festival

More big name performers have been signed up to play at the Nantwich Words and Music Festival.

The latest addition is Dodgy (pictured), the Brit Pop giants from the early 1990s.

The band, who shot to fame with smash hits such as “Good Enough” and “Staying Out For The Summer”, will perform live on October 6, the opening day of the festival.

It’s a massive coup for the organisers who have lined up another exciting array of talent for the week-long festival between October 6 and 12.

The Words and Music Festival, first staged in 2008, has become a firm favourite in Nantwich’s annual festival calendar.

Organisers Nigel Stonier, Clare Smith, and Thea Gilmore decided Nantwich needed a festival that brought music, poetry, literature, and theatre to the town.

Dodgy’s lead singer Nigel Clark took time out from the band to pursue a solo career but in 2007 the band reformed and have been touring the festival circuit ever since.

Their last album, Stand Upright In A Cool Place, was released in 2012 through an independent record label and received positive reviews from magazines such as NME and Q Magazine as well as the Guardian.

Dodgy will be performing at the Crown Ballroom, Nantwich, on Monday October 6, and tickets cost £12.

Other star performers lined up for the festival include  TV and BBC Radio presenters Janice Long and Mark Radcliffe, Badly Drawn Boy, Thea Gilmore, Ian McCulloch, King Creosote, Neil Innes, Luke Wright, Galleon Blast, and more.

Canadian Mo Kenney and seven-piece folk band Flight Brigade will be performing sets hosted by Long at the Malbank Studio Theatre.

As well as The Crown and Malbank Studio, other venues hosting events include The Vine Inn on Hospital Street and Nantwich Players Theatre on Love Lane.
