Callum Joseph Wright, of Nantwich

A talented Brine Leas student will be playing at the Nantwich Food and Drink Festival this weekend.

Callum Joseph Wright will be performing after wowing the judges at the Open Mic UK auditions.

The 15-year-old Brine Leas Academy student, of Shrewbridge Road, Nantwich, plays both acoustic and electric guitars as well as singing.

Along with the other most impressive acts he will now take part in a live head-to-head battle in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place in the National Grand Final.

More than 10,000 hopefuls entered nationwide and Callum wowed the panel with his cover of “Wheels” by the Foofighters.

You can see him perform live at the town’s food festival in the Mornflake Tent on Friday September 5, between 5pm and 7pm and also on Sunday September 7, 2pm-4pm.

Callum has already tasted success, after winning the “Battle of the Bands” competition in Nantwich Civic Hall in 2013.

And it all started after the youngster found his dad Paul’s old guitar in the loft back in 2011.

“His passion for performing has made him a regular at open acoustic nights locally,” said Paul.

“He supported Band JLS at The Railway recently, and has played at Caffe Nero in Nantwich, the White Horse in Nantwich, and The Hawk Inn, in Haslington.

“He has been really busy all Summer performing at parties and more recently being asked to perform throughout a whole wedding ceremony in Manchester – the bride walking down the aisle to an acoustic version of “its all about you” by McFly!”

Other acts he covers include The Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis, Ed Sheeran, Adele and more.
