Arsonists started four fires on the same Nantwich street in the space of four hours.

Fire crews were called out to the four incidents in the Birchin Lane area of the town.

The first fire involved a number of conifer trees which were set alight near a house on Birchin Lane at around 7.20pm last night (August 30).

At 8.50pm, Nantwich fire crews were called out to a second fire involving a tree just 75 metres up the road from the first blaze.

The third incident was started in a hedge at around 10pm, again on Birchin Lane near the first two fires.

And the fourth fire happened just after 11.30pm – again a tree was set on fire on Birchin Lane.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: “It is believed that all four were started deliberately.
