wulvern help foodbank

Nantwich Foodbank has been given a helping hand after being hit by the 5p carrier bag charge.

The new charge has left the foodbank, which has helped hundreds of families, with a dwindling supply of second-hand bags it uses for handing out parcels.

Local housing provider Wulvern has now stepped in to help by donating a pile of canvas tote bags.

These will be used to transport food from their Stapeley store room to clients’ homes.

Last year, the Foodbank fed 1,213 people and received 18 tonnes of donated food.

Ceris Esplen, Wulvern marketing manager and Foodbank trustee, said: “Rising costs of food and fuel combined with static income, high unemployment and changes to welfare benefits means many people are struggling to put food on the table.

“It is causing more and more to come to Foodbanks for help.

“Wulvern is pleased to be able to support the Nantwich Foodbank in this way and help continue the distribution of food to local people in need.”

Nantwich Foodbank is appealing for donations of strong carrier bags to help parcel up supplies of emergency food given to people in crisis.

Ceris added: “Most homes have a kitchen drawer stuffed with old carrier bags, please donate a few to help this worthy cause!”
