Anthony Malbon, Kidsgrove Athletic

Kidsgrove Athletic captain Anthony Malbon says he turned down a move to Nantwich Town because he is “happy” where he is, writes Mark Blackburn.

The Dabbers had given seven days’ notice for the former Derby County youth striker.

Bu Malbon (pictured) chose to stay at the Novus Stadium instead of joining the Weaver Stadium outfit which is chasing promotion in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

“If I’m enjoying it and I’m happy, you’ll get the best out of me,” said the 24-year-old.

“Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener.

“It’s not about money, I’m not interested in that.

“I just want to keep playing and where this club is going they’ve got big plans for it and I want to be a part of that.

“If you speak to people around the club and they tell you what they want to do with it, I think a lot of players would be attracted by that.”

And Malbon added that he spoke to Kidsgrove manager Peter Ward about his decision.

“I think he was a little bit worried! But I told him he didn’t have anything to worry about as I wasn’t interested.

“If I was, I’d have gone up to him straight away and said I want to speak to Nantwich.

“I’m enjoying it here, it’s a good club and I love playing for the gaffer. It’s as simple as that.”

Nantwich are currently in seventh place, six points off the play-offs but with two games over Barwell who currently occupy the final play-off spot.
