jonny kapend, one of 3 trialists at Nantwich Town

Nantwich Town have signed trialists Osebi Abadaki, Jonny Kapend and Dave Walker for the 2016/17 season.

The three had joined the Dabbers in pre-season on a trial basis.

And boss Phil Parkinson has been impressed enough to sign them all up.

Kapend (pictured) joined the club for training after he was released by Port Vale at the end of last season.

He has two goals, including a stunner against AFC Fylde, and will be looking to force his way into the starting XI against Mickleover on Saturday.

Parkinson said: “He did really well. The biggest thing for Jonny is finding consistency.

“We’ve seen signs of him finding that consistency. He came in and he was like a house on fire, scoring, looking a goal threat. He needs to keep doing that to get in the squad.”

Abadaki re-joins the club after leaving in March 2014.

The powerful forward has spent most of his career travelling around the North West non-league circuit.

He impressed with a standout performance against Newcastle Town, scoring two and supplied another in a 6-1 win.

“Osebi is a player you look at and think he’s got a point to prove,” said Parkinson.

“Maybe it’s the fact he’s not been understood or not been loved a little bit.

“We can do that here, we can look after him.

“He’s an exciting prospect, he likes getting at players, he’s got amazing pace, he’s very comfortable running with the ball.

“He’s someone I’m really excited about seeing what he can do this season.”

Walker was a prolific scorer for Nantwich seven years ago alongside Micky Lennon.

He has spent time with Rushall Olympic and Kidsgrove, and has recovered from a double hernia and broken ankle.

“We’re going to have to maintain Dave. He’s not going to slog his guts out for 90 minutes anymore at this level,” added Parkinson.

“The thing for me is about how he can impact the game for us when nobody else can.

“So that last 20-30 minutes, if he gets a chance, he can take it for us.

“Also, him being in the changing room, his experience, his knowhow, the things he’s won, the teams he’s played with, will be invaluable for our lads.”
