New fast food takeaway store Greggs has opened in Nantwich today.
The outlet is based at the Morrisons Daily store at their fuel station off Station Road.
Initial plans submitted by the Motor Fuel Group in 2025 included a Burger King at the same site.
But those plans were amended after Cheshire East Council initially gave them approval in September.
The plans when first unveiled sparked controversy with many people concerned fast food joints would have negative impact on the town.
Sustainable Nantwich were among the objectors, saying they and many residents “hold deep concerns regarding the environmental, social, and economic impacts of this proposal on the environment, the town’s unique character and economy, and on community wellbeing”.
In a strongly worded written objection to Cheshire East Council, Jeremy Herbert, director of the campaign group, said the addition of fast food outlets “completely undermines and contradicts the environmental credibility of the project”.
However, many wrote in to support the addition, saying it would provide cheap food for families and motorists and widen the offer in the town.
Motor Fuel Group said today: “Greggs is now open. We’re excited to welcome all of our customers and can’t wait to see you. Pop in and say hello – we look forward to serving you!”
The company also unveiled its newly revamped Morrisons Daily store at the fuel station.
MFG added: “We’re excited to welcome all of our customers to our newly refurbished store, now featuring a brand-new layout and an extended range in Morrisons Daily.”
