Lucy Everall, Scout Roverway

A Scout leader in Nantwich is to represent the UK at the European Scouting event “Roverway” in the Netherlands.

Lucy Everall, of the 38th group on Davenport Avenue, will embark on the once-on-a-lifetime opportunity between July 21 and August 2.

Roverway is a gathering of Scouts and Guides aged 16-22 from across Europe.

Lucy will be one of 300 participants from the UK Scout movement.

And they will join more than 3,000 other young people from almost all European nations, as well as some from continents, for nine days of adventure, fun and learning skills for life.

All those taking part in Roverway will gather in Amsterdam to see the sights on one of Europe’s major cities.

The event will then move to The Hague for a beachside opening ceremony, after which UK participants will split up into small multinational teams to undertake a journey around the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.

Participants will be challenged to camp in a unique location (roof, raft, beach, 17th Century setting, city or stronghold); undertake community work in support of the people in the towns and villages through which they are travelling; ride a classic Dutch tandem bike as part of their journey.

All 3,000 participants will arrive back together at Scoutinglandgoed Zeewolde, built on reclaimed Polerland to the east of Amsterdam.

Lucy said: “Scouting has given me the confidence I needed to apply for an apprenticeship and I’m now working as an accountant.

“I can’t wait to meet up with some of the other people I’ve met on my other Scouting adventures!”

Chief Scout Bear Grylls wished participants well, saying: “I’d just like to say a massive good luck to our brilliant UK contingent.

“They are heading off on the trip of a lifetime.

“The diversity of people they will meet will remind us all about what the world has to offer.

“They will experience new cultures and make many new friends, becoming ever more tolerant and caring about others through this experience.”
