Weston Lights Cheque

Weston Christmas Light Display organiser Graham Witter has handed over a cheque for £26,760 to The Donna Louise Hospice.

Graham’s lights display once again broke records and proved a massive hit during the festive period.

It was for the sixth year running and the 24-year-old transformed his family home and garden into a Winter Wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights and decorations.

Graham said: “I’m delighted to be presenting this cheque to The Donna Louise, thanks to the generosity of each and every visitor who came along to support my festive fundraiser in December.

“I’d also like to give a special thank you to event partner Whitby Morrison, principal sponsor Swansway Motor Group, and to all the local businesses who sponsored and supported me.

“Without their remarkable support – we would not have achieved this milestone.

“It takes hundreds of hours of hard work and months of planning and preparation beforehand, to get the display ready each year, but it’s worth every minute to see so many families and young people enjoying it.

“Having welcomed more new visitors than ever-before, it’s humbling to see so much love and support for a charity which is so close to our hearts.”

The Donna Louise cared for Graham’s young sister, Jessica before she died in December 2015.

Jessica had many complex health needs and it was her fascination for colour, light and sound that founded and started the Weston Christmas Light Display.

Since 2013, the display has improved each year and Graham has now raised £92,310.00 for The Donna Louise.

Simon Fuller, Chief Executive of The Donna Louise, said: “We’re so grateful to Graham for all his hard work in making the Weston Christmas Light Display such a huge success and raising such a fantastic amount of money.

“He works so hard to plan and put up the decorations and lights, and we’re so grateful for his dedication.

“The money he’s raised this year will help fund a learning disability nurse and provide 2 ‘sign and symbol’ communication workshops for hospice staff.

“On behalf of all the children and young people who will benefit from this remarkable donation, I’d like to say a massive thank you to Graham.”
